Threads of Transformation

Threads of Transformation showcases a piece of critical writing, written during the third year of my degree.
It explores the power of stitch in the rehabilitation of male prisoners.

It focuses on the potential of stitch based activities as a means of rehabilitation, to reduce re-offending rates.

The relevance of the essay is to highlight the effect of repeat offending on prison systems, families of offenders, victims of crime, and the impact on offenders themselves and explore potential methods for improving this.

The publication design centres around key messaging of transformation of self, and the uncovering of a life beyond crime.  The dimensions link to the physical space between prison bars, while baker miller pink, and the Redaction typeface further embrace the subject matter. Thin layout paper pages and fold out spreads add to the sense of change and transformation, with an exposed coptic showcases the stitch.
This work uses the Redaction typeface, commissioned by Titus Kaphar and Reginald Dwayne Betts for The Redaction exhibition at MoMA PS1, inspired by prison systems.
